Green and gold for Sandy Balls

Sandy Balls Holiday Centre in the New Forest has been recognised as one of best campsites in the UK as it scoops the prestigious title of AA’s South East Regional Campsite of the Year.

The Centre near Fordingbridge, which has luxury woodland lodges and static caravans as well as 225 pitches for camping and caravanning, was one of more than 1000 campsites the length and breadth of the company to be rigorously assessed under the AA Pennant Scheme.

Under the scheme qualified inspectors arrive unannounced to stay overnight in order to thoroughly check the services facilities, landscape and hospitality of the sites.

The award comes hard on the heels of two other award wins for Sandy Balls.  It has also recently received its 14th successive David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award along with a Wildlife Friendly Garden Award from the Wildlife Trust.

Sandy Balls, which is open all-year-round, received the prestigious David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award for its outstanding and consistent contribution to the environment – including its active encouragement of biodiversity by conserving natural habitats around its 120-acre site.

The centre’s commitment to all things green has also been recognised by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust’s Wildlife Friendly Award scheme.

The Trust were particularly impressed with the welcome building’s living, breathing sedum roof as well as Sandy Balls’ herb garden and abundance of nectar rich plants for bees and butterflies.

Says Iain Brown, commercial director at Sandy Balls: “To secure The AA Regional Campsite of the Year Award is a fantastic achievement and I’m really proud of the team here at Sandy Balls who work incredibly hard to deliver exceptional service and keep our facilities at five-star standard.

“Add to their hard work the fact that we’re lucky to have the New Forest National Park literally on our doorstep and clearly we had a winning combination!  It is this location which has made us so passionate about safeguarding the environment.  We view ourselves as custodians of the 120-acre estate which is home to Sandy Balls, complete with ancient woodland and the River Avon flowing through it.  This commitment to the environment has been recognised with these two other prestigious awards.”
